We have created a scale-out repository where we have a performance tier on-prem and a capacity tier S3
We have also activated the archive functionality to the scale-out repository pointing to a S3 glacier, where we want i activate immutability on the GFS data
We have checked marked the option "Make backups immutable for the entire duration of their retention policy"
Is it correctly assumed that if i set a GFS monthly to keep for 24 months this will then also be the immutability length of 24 months for the archive tier?

Re: GFS and Immutability
Hi Thomas
Welcome to the forum.
That's correct. With that setting, the GFS restore points will be immutable in the Archive Tier for their entire retention time.
Thanks
Fabian

Re: GFS and Immutability
Hi Fabian
Thank you for your reply
This was also as we assumed, but it is simply because it is not entirely clear in the description
In the immutability setup of the Glacier it states "Make backups immutable for the entire duration of their retention policy", but no mention of GFS.
In the GFS setting it does not say retention, it only says "Keep certain full backups longer for Archival purposes". So this is retention per say in regards of the Immutability?
Therefore we needed to be sure that this still means that when we set to keep monthly fulls for 24 months in GFS, these will be Immutable for thise entire 24 months

Hi Poul
Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums.
On the Archive Tier, for backup or backup copy jobs we only offload backup files with a GFS Flags. Daily "incremental" restore points will not be moved to the archive tier. If you have enabled this option and you offload a monthly gfs backup with a retention end date of July 1st 2025, it will be immutable until July 1st 2025.In the immutability setup of the Glacier it states "Make backups immutable for the entire duration of their retention policy", but no mention of GFS.
Correct. This "Keep certain full backups longer for Archival purposes" is our long term retention (GFS).In the GFS setting it does not say retention, it only says "Keep certain full backups longer for Archival purposes". So this is retention per say in regards of the Immutability?
Yes, each monthly full will be immutable for the 24 months. Therefore we needed to be sure that this still means that when we set to keep monthly fulls for 24 months in GFS, these will be Immutable for thise entire 24 months
Thanks
