hydrated backup files downloading GFS from Object storage

Post by frankive »

We have decided to move some of our customers from Amazon S3 to Wasabi.
There is some jobs with GFS with monthly and yearly retention.
It seems like Amazon and object storage (read: Veeam) has done a decent job with making these full backups very small.
Regarding moving the files to Wasabi we would first need to download these files from Amazon.

My question is: will each full GFS backup becomes fully hydrated when downloading or will they use block clong on the ReFS volume and not take more place than they do in object storage?

Thanks.

F.ex I can see in the Backu properties windows it says Backup szie 26,6 TB (8,76 actual)..
what will this ends up with locally if I start to download these to the performance extent...

And at last; on some of the backup jobs in the same object storage, but different jobs, there is no Download button or a right click to download; why is that?
