object storage cleanup (background retention) missing

Dear PM's,

I'm having managed agent jobs that would backup to an immutable object storage with 90 days immutability. Due to several reasons the clients sometimes can't finish their backup job and so they start over again without using the already existent blocks (was confirmed here: post505154.html#p505154). That of course fills up the object storage for quite a while (at least 90 days). Now my 6 TB object storage is full, but only containing 2 TB of valid backup data, the rest is "garbage".

I thought that the background retention would clean that stuff up, but after more than 90 days I don't see any movement on the object storage. I've checked the agent backup history and found backup jobs which aborted after say 150 GB, so that should have been reclaimed now, but as I said, not yet.

Is it really the background retention responsible for the cleanup or is it the backup job of the agent itself? Or in other words: How can we trigger the cleanup?

Hi Michael

It looks like those objects are orphaned and not cleaned up properly.
Can you please open a support case so we can investigate why those objects are still in your bucket?
Please share the case number with me.

After a little back and forth for a while support had confirmed that the immutability was set to some restore points until the 1st of June when immutability period was set to 90 days and backups were created in december, january and so on.

Now they focus on how it happened and why it happened. Curious about the outcome. Just wannted to give a short update here after two months...
