Offloading VBKs?

Post by ekisner »

We've just a few days ago implemented object storage into a SOBR (via Azure) and I'd like to offload our VBK files, and just keep VIBs on prem (and also copied into object storage, but that's already implemented).

Is this something that is possible now? If not, will it be possible in v12? Purpose is to increase the service life of our backup storage by reducing storage requirements.

No, it's not possible. However, you can offload inactive parts of the backup chain (full backup + incremental) using the Capacity Tier move policy. This will decrease local storage consumption. Thanks!

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, that's not a functional distinction for us, as we only maintain one backup chain for Backup to Disk jobs.

In this case, you can switch to reversed incremental mode and let the backup server offload increments only - in reversed incremental mode, the incremental restore points are located behind full backup and thus belong to the inactive part of the chain. See this for more details. Thanks!
