Oracle plugin w\SOBR

Post by andyboy16 »

Hello,
We have a SOBR repository setup that our regular Veeam backup goes to and we've setup to offload backups everyday on that SOBR to a S3 bucket. Our database team want's to run their own Oracle backups using the Veeam B&R Plugin so that they can control their own Oracle backups. When setting up the Veeam Oracle plugin we point to the SOBR repo during setup. I'm not familiar with Oracle and backups, but if the DBA team runs their backup and it get stored on the SOBR will SOBR offload that data into S3 and off of the local performance tier storage? How would the DBA team recover the back ups that are offloaded?

Hi Andrew,

Backups can be offloaded to the Capacity Tier automatically with two policies: Move and Copy. Here is the direct link to the corresponding section of our help center. DBA don't need to perform any additional steps to restore data from the offloaded backups, plug-in will automatically locate the necessary data blocks on the Capacity Tier during restore.

Thanks!

How can I determine the RMAN backups have been offloaded into S3?

If you go under the Disk section in the Console you can see the job for Oracle. Expand that to see the restore points and right-click and browse/properties on them - this window will show what is local and moved to the cloud, based on the icon it shows.

There's no properties to see that. Here are my only options. Right click does nothing on the root Oracle RMAN section:Image

Maybe try the Restore option and then it should show a restore point browser?

Negative, when selecting the restore it just brings up the Oracle browser with no options to restore from any restore point.

Ok. Maybe this needs to be done by the client. Unsure myself as I don't use the Oracle plugin. Let me do some digging unless someone chimes in. :)

Hello,

An offloaded backup must be in Backups - Object Storage node. So far backups produced by Enterprise plug-ins do not have Properties as the backup chain is handled by the source application and we have no information to display. However, it's a feature request for our future versions but ETA is yet determined.

Thanks!
