Re: Pros & Cons of S3 Object Storage from AWS, Azure, Wasabi
Hi LEWISF,
Will allow others to give their specific experiences, but one of the major decisions that affects all is cost naturally.
Azure and AWS charge for API calls. I think Azure is a little more gentle with API costs, but it still can add up to quite a bit. Similarly, which storage tier you use for Azure/AWS will impact the cost quite a bit, so it's worth planning out based on that alone. I think most non-hyperscaler providers (read: not AWS/Azure/GCP) do _not_ charge for API calls, but it's best to confirm with the providers you're considering about their rate limiting (how many connections per minute, any API limitations or throttling, etc), and get confirmation so you know what to expect for costs. Throttling means lower performance as well, so testing with some actual workloads is important also.
Most providers have their own calculators to estimate costs, and you can use the Veeam Calculators here to help with your projected planning: https://www.veeam.com/calculators/simple/vbr/machines
