Restore from Azure blob to Azure VM fails

Hi,

Setup in my lab environment:
B&R 11
SOBR: Ubuntu 20.04 XFS Repository & capacity tier in Azure blob storage
Azure Proxy VM in use

Trying to restore from Azure blob to Azure VM fails with:

Code: Select all

Error Restore job failed Error: Failed to start an agent on one of the extents. (this refers to Ubuntu XFS extent)

Only combination that fails is:
Full VM restore From Azure Blob (as Linux XFS SOBR capacity tier extent) -> Azure VM

Everything else I have tested works:
Full VM restore From Performance tier (Linux xfs) -> VMware and Azure VM
Full VM restore From Azure Blob (as Linux SOBR capacity tier extent) -> onPrem VMware
Full VM restore From Azure Blob (as Windows REFS SOBR capacity tier extent) -> Azure VM

Has anyone have this setup and can confirm it is working? Any tips on what to check are welcome!

We are currently looking into Linux repo config with support, but this is quite default Ubuntu installation.

Update as I did some troubleshooting in another environment:

1. If I start the restore from backups -> object storage -> right click server name -> restore to azure -> Restore fails

2. If I start from top menu Restore -> VMware vSphere -> Entire VM -> To Microsoft azure -> Select the rau-webdev-01 -> Restore works

In case 2. There is no option to select if restore is made from Performance or Capacity tier but I monitored network during restore, I think the restore is from azure blob to azure?

Should both work, and can someone confirm that in case 2. RP in azure blob is always preferred during restore to azure?

QA team haven't been able to reproduce the issue internally, so, they will check the ticket and ask for additional information, if needed. I will post an update, once I have more information to share. Thanks!

Update: Support has confirmed that there is an issue with this scenario. My understanding is that restore from Azure Blob to Azure VM is not working when using Linux repository as Performance tier.

QA team tried to confirm the issue in our labs (including the one similar to yours) and haven't been able to reproduce it. So we're investigating the case further.

I will keep you updated on the results of our findings.

FYI: this is still a ongoing issue, do you have any workaround in mind that we could try in this case?

Based on the case correspondence, you asked to close the original case, as you opened a new one - 04730199.

Within this case you were provided the hot fix that is applicable to 11a.

Have you had a chance to install it or not?
