Hi,
With Veeam 12, i'm performing 2 types of backups on production environment:
- Oracle RMAN veeam plugin to Scale-out backup repository
- performance tier = windows reFS
- capacity tier = Object storage (bucket #1))
- VM to veeam repository + backup copy job to S3 object storage (bucket #2)
My customer request to run a recovery plan simulating the crash of the complete production site.
To achieve this, i've setup a minimal independant restore environment including a dedicated VBR server
I know the object storage can' be be managed by 2 VBR server thus i've created a Readonly account on the S3 object storage.
=> I'm able to create a scale-out repository (even if there is a little error due to existing backups in bucket) and "download' the backups to performance tier of my restore environment. This works as long as the S3 backups are not encrypted. This enable me to restore my oracle database.
=> I'm not able to retrieve my "backup copy jobs" because a software lock saying "the backups are managed by another VBR server".
My question, is there a way (such as a reg key setting) to skip this prerequisites check in VBR ?

Re: restore from S3 with a secondary VBR server
Hello archvector
Managing SOBR offload/download processes simultaneously from two backup server is not recommended or supported. There is no registry key to make an unsupported scenario possible.
Best,
Fabian

You don't need to download every backup to start a recovery after a crash. Connect your capacity tier to a new backup server and import the backups. I assume that should work as proof for your customer that he can recover his backups after a crash? My customer request to run a recovery plan simulating the crash of the complete production site.

Re: restore from S3 with a secondary VBR server
Hi Fabian,
My capacity tier is accessible to the new backup server however how to use it? I cannot use it directly "as it is", i have to configure first on the new VBR server a repo and "rescan" to see the veeam backups. Do you mean i have to configure a standard S3 object compatible repo (without using scale-out repo) ?Connect your capacity tier to a new backup server and import the backups. I assume that should work as proof for your customer that he can recover his backups after a crash?

Re: restore from S3 with a secondary VBR server
Hello archvector
You must add the S3 bucket to the new backup server and then run an import session.
A SOBR configuration & download of the backups is not necessary.

Best,
Fabian
