S3 Object storage without Scale-Out Backup

Post by RennoK »

Hi.

I found out that our current license does not support Scale-Out Backup.
Would it be possible to offload copy of local backups to S3 compatible object storage without it and what would be best practices while doing so?

Thanks

@RennoK welcome to the forums.

What you are looking for will be in VBR v12 which isn't available yet.

Stay tuned.

Hi Renno

Correct, a VUL or socket license (Ent, Ent+) is required for object storage. Which license do you have? Standard or Community edition?
There will be most likely no change from a licensing aspect with V12. You still need to upgrade your license to be able to use direct backup to object storage.

I recommend to get a quote to upgrade your current license to use object storage integration and all new features which are coming in this direction. You will also get access to features like SureBackup or SureReplica Jobs to test your backups. Without the license, there is no direct way to use object storage as a target in VBR.
What's the ETA on that release?
No ETA yet.

Thanks

They just had a webinar showcasing v12 features this morning. No official release date, but they did say so far it's looking like it's on track to release this year. So maybe winter?

Hi.

We currently have Standard edition, essentials package.
Any estimate on minimum cost to to get Object storage/scale out features?

Are you sure that V12 wont allow us to copy local backups to object storage with current license?

Hi Renno

If you want to know what a new VUL license would cost, you can use the calculator:
https://www.veeam.com/pricing-calculator
But you have already a license, so it will be a migration to VUL.

We from product management can't talk about the migration to VUL costs.
It depends on some factors, that's why you should ask your partner/reseller/veeam representative for a quote.

Yes. The same as with our current version, Enterprise/Enterprise+ or VUL is required for object storage as a backup target.

Thanks
