Scale-Out duplicate?

Post by ConTimKO »

I have been reading up on Scale-Out Repeository, but am afraid I do not comprehend it completely.

I have a wasabi account which I want to use as off-site storage for my backups. I have set that up through SOBR
Is it wise to use SOBR for this? Or should I use External Repository for this in combination with a backup copy job?
I do not understand the difference completely, and I don't seem to be able to add wasabi as external repository.

Thanks for the info.

Yes I have been following that guide to set it up.
But it is not quite clear to me if it gives me a duplicate but off-site copy, or that it moves data from local to cloud.
Also I cannot seem to find restore options that give me an indication wheter the data gets pulled from local storage or wasabi.

Hi Con,

Capacity Tier of SOBR was designed specifically for your usage scenario. We provide two data transfer modes for capacity tier which are Copy and Move. Please, take a look at this article for more information.

External repository has a completely different use-case - it acts as a target for backups created by Veeam Backup for AWS, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure, and Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Platform products. You can also integrate it with VBR for advanced backup data management.

Thanks

If I may:
When do SOBR uploads get initiated? (besides directly after a backup job finishes)

I receive timeout-errors due to the non-upload window.
So I disabled the non-upload windows (permitted all hours) and have put a throttling in place during office-hours instead.
Is that common practise? And when will SOBR kick in again? Or does it wait till the next backup?

Hi, the move operation kicks off every four hours but can be enforced.

Yes, the approach you described is fine.
