SOBR capacity Question

Post by StevenMeier »

Hi all,
I feel this is probably a dumb question but I will ask.

We use SOBR for our Backups

Performance - capacity (aws)-Glacier (AWS)

In the SOBR repository report we daily get via email sates the capacity Limit of the capacity Tier (we have not set)

Can we set from within Veeam B&R a capacity tier limit or do we have to do that in AWS for this (I am sure its aws) ?

How does this mechanic work ?

For example we have a 28 day retention on our Performance tier , we use a copy as a setting in the options to copy the data to capacity tier immediately the immutability is 28 days +10 so 38, we offload data to glacier after 49 days. ....... So if I set a hard limit of say 100TB , which one or what is the order or who will win in trying to keep the s3 to 100TB or under , does the only archive data after 49 days ? . I would like to set a capacity tier limit to keep costs to a static figure if possible is the end goal.

Hi Steven,

If I understand correctly, you're asking about the data limit that can be set on Object Storage Repositories (in this case on Capacity Tier), correct? As in this link? https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120 (Step 3)

Basically, it's a soft limit and the behavior is described there in the User Guide. By soft limit, it means that if during a job the soft limit is hit, that particular job will complete, but new jobs started after the limit is hit will terminate with an appropriate error.

The data in your example would only be queued for archiving after the time period you set on the Archive Tier tab of the Scale-out Backup Repository wizard. So I think just setting your limit on the Capacity Tier gives you what you're looking for here if I'm understanding your question correctly.

Thanks!
