SOBR - Restore a Performance Tier

Post by Stabz »

Hello,

Currently I have a SOBR with only one Performance Tier and a Capacity Tier. My SOBR is configured with Copy policy and Move policy.

What would be the procedure to follow if I loose my Permance Tier by any reasons to restore a new one from the Capacity Tier?

I assume to fact that a new server will be deployed but what are the next steps?
Thanks.

Just execute a restore procedure as you normally do a backup server will understand that restore points are missing on Performance Tier and will switch to ones stored on Capacity Tier automatically. Thanks!

Hello Vladimir,

Thanks for the answers I understand this mecanisme if I have to restore a Vm from a backup in this SOBR.

But my question is "How to implement a new Performance Tier in my SOBR where the first Performance Tier in unavailable"?

Hello Philippe,

To add a new performance tier extent, should follow the common procedure, remove the old one and this is it.

The metadata will be downloaded from the Capacity Tier to keep SOBR in a consistent state. To continue existing backup chains you will need to either download full backup files or create a new full backup. The latter is obviously cheaper.

Hello,

Ok, the metadata will be download automatically ?

My worry is to continue my existing backup chains. If I don't download the full backup files, my job will start a new active full, is that Veeam will be able to reused the chain in the Capacity Tier ?

To download the backup files from the Capacity Tier is there best practices like disabled the job first etc ?

While being created on Performance Tier, new active full backup will not reuse data stored in Capacity Tier. However, only difference between it and what is already present in Capacity Tier will be transferred during next offload cycle.

If you are downloading the latest backup chain that you are planning to use, then it makes sense to disable the job, until the process finishes. But even if you don't disable it, it should not cause something bigger than a failed job session.

Thanks!
