Understanding Of SORB

Post by smithVRNM »

I am trying to grasp the Scale Out backups. We currently have two backup jobs that go to Azure. The SOBR is setup to move backups older than 0 day to the cloud.

I ran both jobs last night, both jobs completed in about 4 hours. But only one job is showing up in the Object Storage section.

Both job are using the same SOBR and both have the same settings other than slightly different backup schedule.

Am I missing something? Do I need to wait a while before the jobs get offloaded to the cloud?

The „move“ Policy will only move restore Points to Azure if they are inactive.

If you need backups in azure as soon as they are created, use „copy“ and „move“ policy together.
This will copy active backup chains too and delete them on the performance tier as soon as a new fullbackup happens from the backup chain (your move Setting „0“ will do that).

Got it. OK. Checking that box seems to fix the inconsistency issue. Now all of them are showing under block storage. Thanks for that.

It still shows the files under 'Disk' and I can find them under the Scale Out folder. Will these files get removed after X time since they've already been offloaded to the cloud?

They should be removed as soon a new backup chain is started, if you have configured „move“ policy with the value „0“.
That normally happens on the weekend, if you have configured weekly synthetic full :)
Veeam will never delete files/restore points from the active backup chain on performance tier.
If old vib or vbk files are not deleted in the performance tier, after a new backup chain has started, it should be investigated by veeam support.
