VBR to Veeam Data cloud - through gw. or proxy?

Post by EviLin »

Hello,

We are about to deploy some Veeam inside of an closed down environment, a VBR server.

We are allowed to talk from that VBR server to another server (Proxy or gateway?) on another network, but not directly from VBR server to Veeam Vault.

What kind of options do we have so we can authenticate the Veeam vault on the VBR server without going directly from VBR to Veeam vault?
The backup data will flow from a VHR directly to the Veeam Vault

Hi EviLin

Yes, you can use a Gateway Server for the backup and backup copy traffic.
But a few additional ports (helpcenter) will be required from "Backup Server" to VDC Vault and our licensing service. You can also configure a Internet Proxy Server.
The backup data will flow from a VHR directly to the Veeam Vault
You have two options. Either direct copy from VHR to Veeam Vault or through a Gateway Server.

The backup and backup copy traffic will direct fro, VHR to Veeam Vault.

So we need an internet proxy server for the other "talk" from the VBR to Veeam Vault?

Yes, if you don't want the backup server to have direct connections, then an Internet Proxy will be required.
There are two proxy settings you need to configure on the backup server:

WinHTTP Proxy (for communication with object storage): https://www.veeam.com/kb3090
WinInet (for communication with the License Server): https://www.veeam.com/kb1975

The other option is to simply allow the backup server to access the required endpoints/URLs (as documented in our helpcenter).
