Hi All,
We are planning to move our backups to AWS Cloud. I understand that there are two options available using the storage gateways - either file storage gateway or Tape Gateway. Does anyone has an experience doing this and which one should be a preferred method & why?
Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of having the storage gateway in Vmware Vcenter or EC2 instance in AWS.
Any advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Shruti

Re: Veeam backup to AWS S3/Glacier
Hi Shruti,
I will leave the answer to your questions for someone else with more experience . But how fast is your project? In update 4 there will be the possibility to natively add an S3 storage to VBR and use it as an archive tier. That would give you more benefits than using a storage gateway or tape gateway

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your response. Would you have an estimate when that update could be made available? Also, can you share some more details about this new possibility of natively adding an S3 storage to VBR solution.
Thanks,
Shruti

Re: Veeam backup to AWS S3/Glacier
Hi Shruti,
We expect beta's coming out soon so from there on we will see what the feedback is. Not much too share at this moment besides that you land your backups "locally" first on a scale-out backup repository tier and from there (depending on your settings) you can archive them to cloud. But the way we do it is going to be different than others and will give you benefits in cost, less needed to retrieve data and more. More details will become available when we approach GA
