Veeam Standard Backup to Azure

Hi,
i have a Veeam Standard B&R 9.5 u4...i want to backup an additional copy (like to a NAS) to Azure storage Blob...
It's possible or I need an Enterprise Version?

This is only available in Enterprise or Enterprise Plus (for a full list, have a look at the following sheet).

Although even in those editions, additional copy is not possible natively today - but is coming in the next release (the feature is called Capacity Tier copy mode). Thanks!

Cloud Tier is part of Scale Out Backup Repository which is a Enterprise and above feature.

You cannot copy to Azure Blob currently, but you can do so to Azure VM disks.

To do that you need to create an Azure VM, add it to backup server as backup repository and, then, configure backup copy job to it.

In this case Standard edition will be enough.

Further adding to this, after using a backup copy job to copy restore points to an Azure-based VM, it's then possible to configure GFS retention in the copy job and have those moved to Azure Blob via Capacity Tier. This way the Azure VM is just a temporary staging area for backups until data ultimately lands in object storage.

Again, any kind of blob storage interaction (Azure, AWS S3, etc) will require you to have Enterprise license.

Hi,

What everyone seem to miss is an important distinction. It’s not possible to do this within VBR without appropriate licenses.

You can do it externally using command line with a bit of PowerShell and “az” commands.

It did this to AWS before it was integrated and it worked fine

I'm new to Veeam and experimenting with a backup job that will create a backup both locally and if possible simultaneously send to Azure blob storage. The objective is to have an offsite/air gapped copy of backups.

This is what I did and wondering if this is correct or if there is a better way to do this?

1. created a scale out repository including Azure and set the "move" time to 0.
2. created a backup copy job to copy test vm to the SOBR.
3. created a backup job of the test vm and set the secondary location as the SOBR.

You're trying to use the feature for what it hasn't been designed. What you really need is copy mode (that will be added in version 10).

For now you can use this approach.
