We are using azure blob storage with immutable as our Veeam backup immutable backup. (Directly to azure with immutable). now, we are using azure export the blob storage to azure data box. Can we restore the data from there?
From Veeam article, Veeam mentioned that “You cannot offload immutable data to the Azure Data Box Device”. I just want to confirm that this article referencing Azure Data Box as a target inside the Veeam software. Once the data is produced by Veeam you can copy it anywhere? or we can't copy to other place? Thanks!

Re: Veeam work with Azure Data Box Device
Hi apolloxm,
To confirm, your idea is to export data from your repository on Azure Blob storage, get the Azure databox shipped to you, and then restore from the data box?
I'm not confident that this has been tested, and given that there is a unique structure for the backups stored in the azure databox, I'm not confident this will be a feasible solution.
What is the reason you want to do it this way? I'm guessing it's about speed, but this still seems like it'd be a fairly involved disaster recovery method when restore to Azure would be faster or likely downloading the backups from Azure.

Re: Veeam work with Azure Data Box Device
We had a fire drill for this. We just want to get a confirmation from veeam whether this will work or not. We are very confused about the guide mentioned“ You cannot offload immutable data to the Azure Data Box Device”

Re: Veeam work with Azure Data Box Device
Hi Apollo,
The statement in the User Guide is referring to the process of seeding data to Azure through the Azure Databox. You cannot utilize immutability for this process.
Databox for all intents and purposes is normal Azure Blob storage, so certainly if the Databox is present restores will work. However, as noted I'm not sure that this has been tested thoroughly, and further more, I'd like to know a bit more on your intended disaster recovery plan here.
In the event of a disaster and you need to recover from your Azure Blob storage, you would simply restore the Configuration Backup and begin restores, or simply add the Azure Credentials to a fresh Veeam Server and start your restores.
I'm a little concerned that your DR plan involves copying the data structure from Azure Blob to Azure Databox and then restoring from the data, as this would be a very slow process with shipping the box around and I worry about issues due to incomplete copies or human error.
1. Are you building a DR plan that involves first copying data to Azure data box then restoring once you've received the data box?
2. Is this more theoretical on if you could do it?

Re: Veeam work with Azure Data Box Device
Hello David,
Per Microsoft document and our testing, connection to data box shares is not supported via REST for exported orders. So, there is no REST button in the data box. in the Veeam guide, to add a data box, we will have to use REST. We are not able to add via the Object Object storage > Hyperscalers > Microsoft Azure Storage > Azure Data Box. also, Azure data box export data only supported SMB or NFS. We tried to add the azure data box via SMB. We can see SMB repository and did the rescan ,but Veeam can't recognize the azure blob object storage data. so, we can't see any data under home->Backups. how can we let Veeam to recognize those Veeam azure blob object storage data?
