Azure Object storage Immutability question

Post by Backup.Operator »

From the new VBR v12, I can see that Azure Storage objects supported are these three items:

Code: Select all

Azure Blob Storage
Azure Archive Storage
Azure Data Box
Can someone clarify if the immutability to those Azure backup jobs is really immutable or can still be deleted by mapping the storage as a network drive, or even from the Azure Portal GUI page?

Also does the Azure blob storage must be using the hot tier or cold/archive tier is supported for cheaper pricing?

Hello,
the question is, what you mean with "really" immutable. If you don't pay your bill, then Microsoft will delete also immutable data. In the end, there is always somebody who can delete, except on WORM tape and optical media (ROMs).

As a customer you have no chance to delete it (as long there is no bug in Azure).

Azure cold tier can be used (it falls into "azure blob storage"). Archive is something you quoted above :-)

Best regards,
