GFS backup retention policy and SOBR with Archive tier

Post by kaustin »

I have a a question about GFS backup retention policy and SOBR with Archive tier using Veeam 11. Here's my goal:

- Local backups: One synthetic full each week; GFS configured to keep weekly full backups for 12 weeks and monthly full backups for 12 months
- SOBR Capacity tier: Copy local backups as soon as they are created; Move backup files older than 14 days; 30 days immutability (AWS S3 Standard-IA)
- SOBR Archive tier: Archive GFS full backups older than 90 days as standalone fulls with full immutability (AWS S3 Glacier)

Regarding the backup retention policy, what's the minimum number of days required to support this GFS and SOBR configuration?

Thank you!

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

The number of days is configured in the backup job is irrelevant. As long as you have the GFS restore points, it will work.

Best regards,
Hannes

PS: keep in mind that infrequent access can be pretty expensive with immutability due to API costs. See sticky FAQ
