SOBR Archive tiering

Post by bharathsbharadwaj »

Hello,

I'm trying to understand how the backups get moved from capacity tier to archive tier. I have capacity tier and archive tier (with that proxy) all set and created under Scale-Out repository

Normal Job -
A. Job1 Local to Azure (SOBR repository selected)
B. Retention Policy (60 Days)
C. GFS (Keep weekly Fulls for 4 weeks from Friday), no secondary destination

SOBR Repository -
A. Capacity Tier (move backups older than 6 days)-->as expected inactive chain backups are getting uploaded to capacity tier
B. Archive Tier (Archive GFS backups older than 6 days)-->This is the problem, I don't see a single full backup moving from capacity tier to archive, veeam is basically showing nothing has been moved.

I'm trying understand the design of SOBR Archive tiering, how and when does it move to archive tier? any advice/suggestions appreciated. Thank you

Can you post a screenshot of both Capacity and Archive Tier configurations? Is "Archive backups only if the remaining retention time is above minimal storage period" enabled by any chance?

Can you open a storage tab and see whether "Archive backups only if the remaining retention time is above minimal storage period" is enabled? If so, disable it. Thanks!

"Archive backups only if the remaining retention time is above minimal storage period" is set to Diabled.

Is there a way to move backup files from the Azure Archive tier back to the capacity tier and then eventually to the performance? I wish to stop using Azure storage for this reason.

Try the following:

- Retrieve backups from Archive Tier
- Run the "Export Backup" wizard
- Select the retrieved restore point
- Once the retrieved restore point is exported to Performance Tier, seal Capacity Tier (current logic might try to copy or move exported restore point within the next offload interval)

Thanks!
