SOBR costs in S3, how to calc?

Post by lando_uk »

So we are planning on replacing our traditional offsite repro with S3, but we need to roughly estimate the costs. Can I just take the current sizes of the offsite folders and use that?

Hi Lando

The current folder size is not the same as in the capacity tier. We only upload unique blocks as objects to S3. It behave similar to FastClone with reFS or xfs.
So the folder properties would give you probably the wrong estimation.

For the calculation, please have a look at our calculator:

Thanks

And this is assuming your chosen object storage does not change for anything but actual storage. Because some like to additionally charge for API calls, for early deletion fees, for egress, etc.

Thanks, so looking at the calc, for me it would be about 125% the size of the primary backups + transaction/API costs.
