import backup file to new job

Hi guys,
I have some backup jobs that were done by Veeam Windows Agent Free Edition. Now I'm using Veeam Backup and Replication and want to know if I can import those backup files to a new Job so that it will pick up where it left off. Is this possible? I've searched and searched and can't find anything

First: Welcome to the forums!
Second: Do you want to make it a managed agent backup job? Or use a Veeam backup repository only as a storage place for the backups? In the latter you might be able to use this KB article: https://www.veeam.com/kb2321

I'm new to Veeam so forgive the ignorance. But I want to view all the backups across my servers centrally so I want to use the Console. So I'm assuming I would use the managed agent backup job.


So just to explain more in detail what im trying to accomplish.

- I was running veeam free agents on a few servers
- they were storing backups to our NAS device at \\NAS\Backups\
- example location: \\NAS\Backups\SERVERA\Backup Job SERVERA\

I installed Veeam Backup and Replication
I have NO backup jobs.
How can I create a backup job and point it to the current backup files, so it will continue with the chain?

sorry, but the idea you have is not possible as stated in the KB article mentioned by Mike.

If you want to backup servers, then you probably like to choose "managed by server" (most use cases). For more details, I can recommend this explanation

Hannes, isnt that option only for physical servers? these are VMs that im wanting to backup.

Just an update:

I have tried to create a backup job in the console, but if i tried to "map" it doesn't see the files that were backed up by the free agent.
I reviewed your document: https://www.veeam.com/kb2321 But im clearly doing something wrong. the instructions are a bit confusing.

i created a folder under \\NAS\Backups\ called domain\user so it looks like this
\\NAS\backups\GTF_John\
and moved the folder and files into it so it looks like this:
\\NAS\backups\GTF_John\Backup Job DC01\
\\NAS\backups\GTF_John\Backup Job DC02\
\\NAS\backups\GTF_John\Backup Job Server1\
\\NAS\backups\GTF_John\Backup Job Server2\

and rescanned my repository, but if i go to map a job, it doesnt show any of the original backups.

if you are backing up VMs, then you don't need an agent. Veeam does agentless backups for VMs

Just add your VMware / Hyper-V host and do a VM backup.

I can recommend the evaluation guide for the first steps.

Thanks for the reply but Im not sure you are understanding me, im not trying to setup agents on the VMs. Im trying to create new Jobs but use the current backup files.
