A Minor enhancemet - Request

Post by ian.wall@rockitg.com »

Hi Veeam Team,

Would it be possible to add a Time and Date in the description field of a VSphere Snapshot when created for Veeam Jobs? Not that I'm any sort of programmer but I would have thought that to be a minor enhancement which would prove very useful to some of our customers admins.

Thanks
Ian

Hello Ian,

Do you refer to VM replica snapshots that are used as available restore points or something else?

Thank you!

Hello Vitaliy,

I mean the Description field of a snapshot of a VSphere VM associated with a Veeam backup or replication job, as viewed in VCenter Client's "Snapshot Manager"

The Current name of the snapshot is "VEEAM BACKUP TEMPORY SNAPSHOT"

and Description is "Please do not delete this snapshot. It is being used by Veeam Backup."

There have been times when a VShpere snapshot has not been deleted/committed after a Veeam Backup job has finished and the VSphere Admins don't flag that the VM is running on a snapshot because they think it's still being backed up. Then 2 months later they are supprised that the Datastore is running out of space.

Thanks for your promt reply.

Ian

Ah...thanks for clarification. Normally, you do not run into this situation, but if you do, you can use Veeam ONE to alert on orphaned backup job snapshots. We have a predefined alarm for that, so it should be easier to be notified about these things, rather than reviewing snapshot time stamps for every VM manually. Thanks for the feedback anyway.

BTW, Veeam ONE can also search for snapshots that are not visible in Snapshot Manager, and then list you all VMs that have this issue.
