Widows SIS and Veeam File Level Restore

Post by m.novelli »

I have some customers using Windows 2008 Storage Edition as dedicated file server VM

This version of Windows implement a feature called "SIS" - Single Instance Storage to deduplicate files

Veeam File Level Restore can handle properly the situation of restoring a SIS-enabled file?

A SIS-enable file should be a link to a file moved by Windows SIS engine in particular repository

Thanks friends,

Marco

Hi Marco,

Let me check it with the development team for you, but I'm pretty sure that if you need to restore SIS-enabled file you need to restore it from SIS Common Store, as restoring de-duped file image might not be properly handled. As a workaround you may try restoring full VM image to get that sort of files.

Thanks!

Marco,

Just wanted to add that with our v5 SureBackup functionality, you will be able to instantly start VMs from backup file. Thus, you will be able to quickly boot your backed up VM on the isolated network, logon to it and retrieve all SIS-enabled files you need without restoring the entire VM image.
