Recovery Media Creation Too difficult?

Post by tinto1970 »

I'm the greatest fan of Veeam, but i have often troubles with Recovery Media creation with Endpoint Backup product.

In this case, i have to backup a Windows 8 (preinstalled from Dell) desktop computer. The Recovery Media creation fails with

"WinRE is missing. Specify the location of Windows..... installation files. Alternatively download and install Windows ADK"

I've downoaded and installed Windows ADK, rebooted the pc, but the creation fails with the, frustrating, identical error.
I've searched in the documentation, but this point is not as richly documented: it seems i'm the only one seeing this error...

The most frustrating thing is that it seem much easier and faster to install and configure a server with Enterprise Manager, B&R, set up some repositories, configure jobs and so on, than performing the backup of a desktop :?

It would be nice, at least, to have a "Dummy proof" how to for media recovery creation

it's comic.... i've downloaded the ISO istallation DVD, and selected when creating the media
The Media Creation Recovery started, but failed with these errors

Copying boot files: error
Failed to create recovery media: Windows ADK not found

it's a bit weird, more than comic....

Some components are missing in your particular case or your account might not have insufficient permissions to run the recovery media creation. Kindly, continue to work with the support team to understand the root cause of your issue. Thanks

i'm a domain admin so i do have all the permissions.
i will follow the suggestions from the support team, if i just can pull away the user from the pc again... ;)

i am strongly interested in using v.e.b. for backing up our desktops

thanks

I'm having the same problem. 8.1 ADK is installed and Windows install media ISO is mounted. Please be sure to post here how you resolve this. :)

My case number is 01671780. Support had me run regedit and:

3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> Veeam --> Veeam Endpoint Backup.
4. Right-click on blank field and create a STRING value called "RecoveryImageTempPath" (without quotes). Set value to C:\Temp
5. Then create a DWORD value called "ForceUseAdkForRecoveryMedia" (without quotes) and set the value to 1

This did not fix the problem.

Hi folks,
Sorry for delay - we were checking the logs with QA team.

JML,
case number is 01671780.
Can you clarify, do you have any antivirus software installed (Kaspersky maybe)? It seems that something is blocking the recovery media from collecting the needed components.

Alessandro,
case# 01671123
According to the logs you system lacks the needed components. We do see that you installed the ADK but the version differs from your operating system – you need ADK v8.0. The solution would be to de install all existing ADK versions, reboot and then install the correct version. I believe, this is the one you need

Hi folks,

Did you find a solution with support?

I'm running into the exact same problem. Installation of Windows ADK did not help (client is on Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit), nor did disabling antivirus (Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10) help.
Best regards,
Karl
