Error: Failed to create or open file.

Post by DaveZ »

Hello, this is my first post on that forum, welcome everyone.

I'm trying to backup computers in local network using Veeam Endpoint on SMB share. The SMB servers runs on Debian 8 in the same network.
The share is secured by a username and password - this works great - I can copy and write files through Windows Explorer.
But when I try to run backup taks, Veeam reports an error:

Code: Select all

Error: Access denied. Error code: 5 Failed to create or open file [\\10.1.8.254\backup3\Backup Job TESTOWA-VM_1\Backup Job TESTOWA-VM2016-02-05T163144.vbk].
This is strange, because Veeam creates \Backup Job... directory and two files inside: .vbm (size 1 KB) and .vbk (size 30772 KB). And after a while backup job fails and .vbk disappears (.vbm still inside the directory). The storage have 1.2T and computer have 250GB drive so this is not a free space problem.
Has anyone met with such a case?

Hello and welcome to the community Dave,

Just to clarify, the account you used on the VEB shared folder set has full access permissions to the said folder, right?

Hello Dave,

Please open a support case (Control Panel > Support > Technical Support), so support team could investigate your application logs. Thanks

Check:
1.- connection to folder
2.- folder permissions.
3.- antivirus settings (exceptions and ransomware option )
