CBT not used during replication

Post by fsseremba »

I would like to know why replication of VM with the following specs can't use CBT.
Guest OS: Red Hat Enterprise 5 (64-bit) - CentOS 4/5/6 (64-bit)
VMware Tools Version Status: 3rd-party/Independent
VM Version: 4
CPU: 4
Memory: 8192
Provisioned Storage: 218.09

Hi,

Why do you think that it can't use CBT? Did any errror messages appear during replication?

Thank you

Hi PTide,

The reason i'm saying that its not using CBT it because the replication session does not show CBT, it reads the entire drive and replication is taking longer. No error message.

Please double-check the following:

- CBT is enabled in replication job settings
- The replicated VM has no existing snapshots
- The replicated VM is a Veeam Backup Proxy
- You see nothing like

Code: Select all

Hard disk 1 (50.0 GB) 16.1 GB read at 15 MB/s [CBT]
in detailed session logs.

I have one job that has a couple of VMs replicating using CBT but its only one particular VM that is not using CBT.

So,
- Yes, CBT is enabled in the replication job settings
- There is no exisiting snapshots for this particular VM
- Replicated VM is not a Veeam Backup Proxy (not why you are saying replicated VM is Veeam Backup Proxy?)
- I don't see that in the session logs

Could this be related to the VM running with VM Version 4? What is supported VM Version in order to use CBT

It is related.
What is supported VM Version in order to use CBT
It's 7
not why you are saying replicated VM is Veeam Backup Proxy?
For some reason I thought that you were using hot-add mode (CBT is disabled for backup proxies servers using hot add processing mode), sorry about that.

Thank you.

Thanks PTide,

One more clarification, on Veeam site they talk of VM being backed up must be at least hardware version 7. Is hardware version mentioned by Veeam mean the same as VM Version mentioned by VMware?
