SQL Server 2014 in-guest cluster

Post by JamesNT »

We have a SQL Server 2014 in-guest cluster on top of our 2012 R2 hyper-v cluster.

Does Veeam support in-guest SQL clusters for backup? As of now, it appears our only choice is to have Veeam backup the SQL databases and truncate the logs on both VM's in the in-guest cluster. The problem is since this is an active-passive cluster, the job will always issue a warning when attempting to get the passive cluster member to backup and truncate the log (the active member is successful).

Can Veeam not connect directly to the SQL cluster itself like it does a Hyper-V cluster?

Thank you all for your assistance.

Hi James,

SQL offers a number of clustering options. Can you please give us a bit more information about your configuration? Is it an Always On SQL server?

Thanks!

Standard Active-Passive SQL Server cluster using SQL Server 2014 Standard.

OS is all Windows Server 2012 R2.

There is an existing topic discussing how this SQL Server can be backed up, please take a look > Backing up Always On MSSQL with Veeam (it's pretty long one, but has summary posts on the recommended approach).
