Problems with Backup of SharePoint

Post by john76 »

Hi all

I have Problems to backup my SharePoint 2010 Virtual Machine on ESX4.1 with 255GB (the VM)

The Error Message is:

Creating snapshot CreateSnapshot failed, vmRef "vm-254", timeout "1800000", snName "VEEAM BACKUP TEMPORARY SNAPSHOT", snDescription "Please do not delete this snapshot. It is being used by Veeam Backup.", memory "False", quiesce "False" Datei <unspecified filename> ist größer als die vom Datenspeicher '<unspecified datastore>' unterstützte maximale Größe.

Is the problem on the local Storage? Because the SharePoint2010 Server is on a LUN0 of my Synology 1010+ with 768GB Space and used 255GB from my SharePoint 2010 VM.

Any Suggestions?

Greetings John

[merged with existing discussion]

Hello ,

I bekome an error when i try to Backup an W2008 Server with an SQL 2008 Server running on it on an VM.

The Error is :

Total VM size: 935,00 GB
Processed size: 0,00 KB
Processing rate: 0 KB/s
Backup mode: NBD without changed block tracking
Start time: 15.01.2011 15:36:12
End time: 15.01.2011 15:37:25
Duration: 0:01:12

Freezing guest operating system
CreateSnapshot failed, vmRef "vm-64", timeout "1800000", snName "VEEAM BACKUP TEMPORARY SNAPSHOT", snDescription "Please do not delete this snapshot. It is being used by Veeam Backup.", memory "False", quiesce "False"

File is bigger as from Datastore supported maximum size.

What means that ?

Hi Winston,

I'v had this error before and in my case it was wrong block size that caused this. Snapshots are stored in vm's original folder (where configfiles are) and the block size that we had configured on that LUN was smaller then on the other LUNs (containing other .vmdk files that the VM was using).

So make sure that the LUN where your VM's configfiles are stored is using the same Block Size (in our case 8 MB) as you have on other LUNs that contain your VM's .vmdk files.
