lost all categorizations after update

Post by real_tarantoga »

Hello board,
after updating the veeam business view software from 1.0.xx (don't really remember the exact release number) to version 1.0.3.96 I've lost all categorizations of the group "department" (reflecting the custom attribute "v.Dep"). Is this a known issue? What can I do to correct the problem.

thank you

Hello,

Do you use Rules to categorize VMs?

Hello Stefan, could also please clarify if you've tried to re-add vCenter to BV console after/before the upgarde procedure?

Hello Alexey & Vitaliy
Indeed, we added a new vcenter:
starting with vcenter 4.0, I installed BV 1.0.1, the free version. After updating to vcenter 4.0 u1 all continued to work fine.
Later we switched from vcenter 4.0 (with esx) to vcenter 4.1 (with esxi) - we used a copy of the vcenter 4.0 u1 sql database. At this time there weren't any problems discussed. Well, it seems it has worked well for us. ;) Even for Veeam Business View and the Veeam Backup & FastSCP I couldn't notice any problem.

Two days ago I installed the the actual release of Veeam Business View - and lost all categorization as metioned above. (There is only one Categorization - "Department", we don't use any other Group/Category)

Thank You for Your engagement
Stefan

Well...that explains, Veeam Business View doesn't sync back all custom attributes previously assigned on the vCenter. Besides, vCenter Server removals cause removing custom attributes from the BV database.

Hmm,
are you planning to reactivate the import function of custom attributes from vcenter to the BV database?
Because, BV ist the Add-on, not the front-end ...

Apropos - I just tried it. I cannot change the flag "uncategorized" to any other value - after clicking "edit category..." and confirming the change the workspace in the new release refreshes but the value stays still "uncategorized". So, I can't continue using BV - that is a great pity!!!

Forget about the last post.
Now, I dropped the database and did a clean installation of BV 1.0.3 - Strike! 8)
You said: " ... doesn't sync back all custom attributes previously assigned ... " - I wondered what You tried to tell me. ;)
While in the older database all custom attributes were "previously assigned" - the import in the clean database was as easy as breathing.

Problem solved. :D Thanks!

Stefan,

Glad that your problem is solved now!

As for sync back option, I was trying to say if you manually adjust custom attribute on the VM, it won't be edited automatically in BV db. I agree it sounded very confusing, as you DO have an option to import your custom attributes from vCenter via Mapping configuration wizard.
