Alarm : Guest free disk space v5

Post by ErikSi »

Hello,

When using the Alarm guest diskspace i can see that alarms are triggered on the C:\ drive but not on the other drives.
This is the default alarm in Vmonitor. Does it trigger only on C:\ drives ?

Regards Erik.

Hello Erik,

No, the corresponding alarm should work for all VM drives, could you please clarify what made you think that it only works for your C drive?

Thanks!

We have a VM with only a c: drive and less free space then 10%. this generates an alert.
Target: **********
Status: Warning (Yellow)
Alarm: Guest disk space
Time: 10/27/2010 9:34:18 AM
VM disk free min space is below 10%

We have a VM with a c:, d:, f:, n: and m: disk. the n: drive is 150Gb and has 0,8 Gb free space left. I assume this should have generated an alarm.?
But no alarm is triggerd

Erik,

Yes, the alarm should have been generated. Taking into consideration that VMware Tools is required in order to get disk free space, please make sure you have the latest version of Tools installed on this VM. By the way, could you tell me whether VM Summary tab displays the correct information for VM guest disks usage?

Vitaliy,

It is a windows 2008 server standard with SP2 and vmware tools version 8.3.2 build 257589
The summary screen is presenting the correct information
it shows a 100Gb drive with 4,1 GB free space.
The alarm should generate an event at 10%
The server has a C: drive and an E: drive.
The CDROM is D: and not shown in the summary screen.

Yes, the alarm should have been generated, assuming that you didn't adjust any tolerance settings in the alarm properties.

Could you please open the support ticket with our technical team by sending log files together with the screenshots of summary VMs tabs showing guest disk information for further troubleshooting.

If there is a patch available I would like to receive this patch also. We have the same issue with alarms on other disks than the system disk. Alarms only generated on system disk. We've had this already with several VM's.

Marco

Quest disk space alarm from second drive doesn't work

Post by matarvai »

[merged]

Our Veeam Monitor won't send alarm when quest disk space on drive D: is lower than alarm level. Everything works fine when C: drives are low on space. We just got weird error from one of our VM servers, and went to look at it and D: drive was full. After that I started testing and our Veeam Monitor won't send alarm when any of the VM has low disk space, if that disk isn't System Partition. How can we get alarms from other VM drives as well?

My comment is similar to others: Can we get the ability to customize the emails? In relation to the Guest disk space alarm, I would like the ability to see which drive is filling up. Also, with the alarms, the ability to have only Errors repeat for emails, not both Warnings and Errors.

More informative alarm description will be available in our next version. The same refers to the ability to choose alarm condition when you want to send the email/SNMP trap.
