Windows Server 2012 R2 fails to boot after restore

I have a basic Windows Server 2012 R2 installation. I used VAW RTM Free Edition to restore my full backup and it failed to boot. Can I restore a Windows Server 2012 R2 installation with VAW RTM Free Edition?

Yes this is a supported configuration. Just to clarify, you've created the recovery media and are trying to perform a bare metal recovery of the machine?

Can you also clarify what error you got while booting after recovery (or was it BSOD)? Was the recovery media created on this machine with drivers being included? Thanks.

I created a new VHD rather than restoring over top of the original. Restore worked perfectly. My new VHD was slightly smaller. VAW asked me to do a manual partition and it shrunk the primary partition for me. Amazing! Best backup software I've ever used.
