Replication from backup - reduce snapshot stun

Post by unsichtbarre »

I would like to create an elegant strategy for replication from backup where I can meet a 1-hour R.P.O.. The client complains of VMware snapshot stun on hourly replicas from Infrastructure, where the replica takes most of the hour to replicate over the wire, and therefore the snapshot exists for most of an hour. Goals would be:
  • Have a Veeam local backup every 1-hour or less
Retain at least one (incremental) restore point daily for 30 days locally
Replicate from backup sub 1-hour R.P.O.
My holdup is that I can not figure out how to do this without 2 local backup jobs: one with 24 hourly restore points (no synthetic fulls), and one with 30 daily restore points (weekly synthetic fulls).

Is 2 jobs the best strategy?

Hi John, seems you do need two jobs indeed, but you can use the backup copy job instead of the second backup job.
