Replica "inflate" vmdk

Post by felipehanciau »

Hello,
We are starting the first replication to a new DR site and after some replications I realized the vmdk files were "inflated" to the provisioned space.

I found this old topic from 2012 that looks like what is happening in our case.
vmware-vsphere-f24/replica-to-dr-conver ... hin%20disk

The Datastore in DR site is almost full because this issue.
For some VMs, I cloned them and the vmdk file was reduced to its used space. for some others, it didn't change the vmdk size.
We can see disk Type "Thin", but it looks like a Thick disk.

If I replicate a VM that does not exist in DR site, it replicates with the correct disk size, only used space.

- DR Site
VBR 9.5 U3 is in the DR site. It is also WAN Accelerator and Backup Proxy.
There is another VM running as WAN Accelerator and Backup Proxy.
vCenter 6.5 with 2 VM hosts ESXi 6.5
DataStore VMFS 6

- Production Site
There are 2 VMs running as WAN Accelerator and Backup Proxy.
vCenter 5.5 with 2 VM hosts ESXi 5.5
DataStore VMFS 5

Proxies are using hot-Add in source and target.

Just a update in this topic, I opened a support case and we discovered that the account didn't have all permissions required to connect to the source site.
Give it the right permissions solved this issue.
thanks,
