VM targetting for Hyper-V compared to VMware

Post by cookiejc »

Hi, I am from a VMware background and in the process of configuring a new VMM / Hyper-V environment with Veeam backups. In VCenter, we created folders to contain our VMs and could target these folders with Veeam jobs. For example an Application Servers job targeting an Application Servers folder in VCenter. I can't see any way to make similar folders in VMM. What is everyone else doing in order to logically group VM's to jobs? Is it a case of using tags or am I missing a trick here?

Many thanks,

James

Hi James,
You can assign tags on the VM shortcut menu in SCVMM, in its Properties.
Veeam Backup & Replication handles tags when you select VMs to back up.
Thanks!

Hi, thank you for the reply. So I take it there is no way to do the folder method in VMM like you can in VCenter? (I appreciate this is more of a VMM question than Veeam!)

AFAIK, there is nothing like VM folders in SCVMM. Have you considered using tags instead?
Thanks!
