Hourly Backups 24points keep midnight backup for 30days
Hi All,
I have hourly backups of a VMware VM, the owner wants to keep these backups for 24 hours onsite but also want to keep the Mid-night backup for 30days.
He also wants to take this "daily" backup offsite.
Can anyone tell me the most efficient way of scheduling this ?
Currently, I have an hourly backup job and 2 backup copy jobs. The first copy job to a repo on the same site at midnight, the second to a repo offsite.
Is there a better way ?
Mike

Hi Mike,
Backup + Backup copy job is the recommended approach.
I just don't see why you need 2 backup copy jobs.
Thanks!

The first is to move the hourly to a daily onsite and the second one is to move the same backup offsite,

Initial backup is also onsite. Do you need 30-days of backups onsite?
If yes, jobs are configured as should.

Ok Thanks Its a good question as I guess I could just restore back from the other site. But I think its probably best if I keep another set onsite just so I have multiple copies..Thanks for the confirmation

Statistically 95% of restores happen from the most recent backups. So you can either keep only one backup copy job or change retention of onsite copy job to 1 week.
