Sweep to tape strategy

Post by ddockter »

I'm doing an eval of Veeam Backup (currently using vRanger). With vRanger I do full backups of my VMs on Friday and differentials Mon - Thurs. After the backups, I copy the new savepoints to tape using Backup Exec. For DR purposes I then only need the last full backup tape(s) plus the most recent differential tape(s). In theory that is how it is supposed to work. In practice if a VM backup fails, it throws off the schedule for that VM.

Anyway I'm wondering how others who have a requirement to copy their savepoints to tape for DR purposes have their Veeam backups set up.

There are dozens (I mean, literally) of existing topics about tape sweeping where existing customers are sharing their experiences. At least half of our customers are doing tape backups. Please search this forum for "tape" or "backup exec" to find the existing discussions. Thanks.

Backup Exec make a new job. Just backup the .VBK files as per below. ( this shows how i backup 2 luns of backup data to tape )

\\CSVEE01\F:\*.VBK /SUBDIR
\\CSVEE01\E:\*.VBK /SUBDIR
