Veeam B&R VMware and Netapp

Hello together,

first of all i want to explain our infrastructure.

We have an Netapp FAS2650 with 2 Luns (DS1, DS2) for VMware.
Three ESX Hosts are connected with FC over a Brocade SAN Switch to the Netapp.

Another Server is our Backup Server which is not connected to the Netapp, only to the network.
I gave a virtual machine the task to be the backup proxy.
But my problem is, that i get this errors while trying to do backup from storage snapshots.

Failed to create processing task for VM TEST-VM Error: Cannot find suitable proxy for retrieving data from storage snapshot, and the option to failover to backup from VM snapshot is disabled  

Does anyone have an idea, where is the problem?

Hi,

It seems that for some reason none of your proxies are able to access snapshots on NetApp. Could you please double-check the requirements for backup proxy?

Hi PTide,

after reading the requirement for backup proxy i have a few questions.
1) The backup proxy is a virtual machine on the esx which is connected by FC to the storage. Do i have to create a NPIV on the VM?
2) After creating the NPIV on the VM i have to zone it, right?

Using NPIV for backup operations is not supported, you need to have physical proxy with FC. For restores you can use VM with FC via NPIV instead of physical FC.

Are there any problems with Veeam B&R if i use VVOL?

VVOLs are suported only for hotadd and NBD backup modes. You cannot use Direct SAN mode with them.
