Backup of Windows 10 VM clients
I need to backup some Windows 10 VM PCs member of workgroup.
PCs are used by developers and include SQL dbs used for testing purposes.
Given a PC whose IP address is 192.168.1.111 used and managed by a user whose (local) username is "john_doe" what is the right syntax for the OS credentials for applications aware processing? I made a test using 192.168.1.111\john_doe with no success.
What is the possible disadvantage if I don't confngure application aware processing?
Can backup damage in any way the PC being backed up?
Regards

Re: Backup of Windows 10 VM clients
For local accounts, you can specify credentials either in 'Username' or 'HOST\Username' format. Make sure the user has administrator privileges on the VM guest OS. Without AAIP backup will not be transactionally consistent, which is not that critical for SQL databases though.

Does this make any change in the PC being backed up?foggy wrote:Without AAIP backup will not be transactionally consistent, which is not that critical for SQL databases though.

Re: Backup of Windows 10 VM clients
Withouth AAIP VM in backup file will be in a “crash-consistent” state, the same as after a system failure or power outage. SQL can handle such situations quite well, though.
So, I don't think there is something to worry about.
Thanks.

Re: Backup of Windows 10 VM clients
I'm still attempting to enable AAIP by specifying the user's credentials for a Windows 10 box, but while I test credentials I get an error like:
that, translated from Italian, means "access denied, code 5".
I suspect that there is a Windows 10 specific issue.
Is there any way to solve this specific issue?

Code: Select all
29/05/2018 15:17:56 :: Cannot connect to the host's administrative share. Host: [MYPC]. Account: [MYPC\user1].;Win32 error:Accesso negato.; Code: 5;

Re: Backup of Windows 10 VM clients
Let me re-open this topic with a more general question.
Given Group of guest VMs running Windiws 10 64bit member of a workgroup and hosting a local copy of SQL, qhat is the right way to configure backup?
Should I implement AAIP? If so, which syntax should I use?
Can I safely ignore AAIP?
Can I ensure that no damage is maed to the VM whilt it is backed up?

Re: Backup of Windows 10 VM clients
If crash-consistent backup is OK for you, you can simply disable AAIP for this VM. Thanks.
