We've confirmed that email addresses are being merged together correctly, but all other notification options (including notification events) does not merge - basically the settings from the global notifications will always overwrite local job notification settings. I've noted an improvement request for this logic and will discuss it with the team. Thanks for your help folks!

Hi Michael,

I'm sorry for not updating this topic.
At least our problem with the notifications of disabled backup policies was solved with v10.

Michael,

I've checked with QA folks regarding multiple email notification issues. In the latest v10a we've:

- fixed several issues to make sure that email report is being sent per protection group only once based on the latest state of each agents
- did the same for backup policy (aka managed by agent job type)

Can you please raise a new support case for me and we will double check your logs to understand why the behavior is different in your setup? Thank you in advance!

Hi Dima,

support engineer wrote:

"I have researched the issue further and can confirm that unfortunately, it is not possible to turn off notifications for protection groups and policies in Veeam Agent managed by Veeam Backup and Replication when Configuring Global Email Notification Settings are enabled."

So far so good but this doesn't really help to avoid those messages...

Hello Michael,

Thanks for sharing the update! Based on the logs we, indeed, do not see any issues. I've checked with the support and QA folks and they told me that there are no duplicated reports, and your main request was to disable some email reports (with global email notifications being enabled), right? We are discussing how this could be accomplished.

Hi Dima,

yes you're right. For me it doesn't make sense to get error-mails every day when some notebooks were not reached during the last rescan because they were offline. That's the point, for me this is not really an error and I wanna know if the backups were successful and if there are machines which were maybe not rescaned at all. But if some devices weren't rescanned a while, I do not really care. ;)

Thanks! Would it help is we allow to uncheck certain events under the protection group email reporting settings and make those settings affect the global email reporting as well (say you uncheck notify on success and that will overwrite the global email reporting settings)?

Dima, by saying 'overwrite the global email reporting settings' you mean kind of overrule, right? By 'overwrite' I understand that the change in the protection group would for instance untick the box for the global settings.

If your suggestion was kind of overrule, then I could exclude notifications on errors for that protection group, correct?

Correct, our idea is to make the granular settings (under each job or protection group) a higher priority and overrule the configuration of the global email reporting based on the granular configuration. By the way, you want to disable only errors (or shut it down completely by disabling all possible events)?

Well, as I said before, for me it is not really an error when a rescan wasn't successful. As always, we care about the protection (=backup) and not so much about the last successful rescan. So it would be good to specify what we understand under "error". If we untick the box for "errors" regarding notifcations, then we would probably never get any message at all because every daily reports contains "errors" because some machines weren't present during the rescan time.

Did that help to understand what I'd like to avoid? Thanks!

Thanks Michael! With such approach you could uncheck notify on success and notify on warnings and get protection group notification only when something goes wrong.

How the rescan schedule is currently configured? You can actually disable the periodic protection group rescan if the machines are already configured and backup is running correctly.

How can you disable the protection group rescan? You have to specify a rescan rhythm...

I believe Dima was referring to disabling the group option which will not affect your backup activity but will disable the rescan procedure.

[MERGED] How to Disable the Email Scan Status for Agent Backup Computers.

Post by WinstonWolf »

Hi ,
Is there an Option where i can completely disable the daily / Periodically Scans and followed reports for the Windows Agent check ?

We use the Agent Backup not daily or weekly . With the Windows Agent Backup we do only one time in the Year an Backup for the Windows Computer because the Software dont change under hte Year.

But every day there was created Emails where i can see the Scan Status of this Computers . Till now i cant find an Option where i can turn off this Email Reports .

This Screen i found under Inventory / Agent Backup / Options :
Image

And this Screen i found under the Backup Job himself :
Image

Or is there another way to create this Jobs when it is only neccessary for one Backup per Year for an physical Computer via Veeam Agent for Windows ?

Thanks
Michael

Hi Hannes,

is there any improvement after 5 years? I mean I still get those annoying emails about failures in the protection group every night. For me, I haven't found a way to switch that off...

Thanks!
