Recreate Full Backup with Reversed Incremental

Post by RGlintmeijer »

Hi,

We use Reversed Incremental jobs with 25 restore points. Now i want to recreate the full backup, but still keep one VBK. (to solve a problem wich seems to be solved with performing a full backup)

So normal behaviour with Reversed Incremental is one Full and many Rollbacks:

Code: Select all

F R R R R R R R R R R R ...
After performing a manual Full Backup, the result is:

Code: Select all

F F R R R R R R R R R R ...
Is it possible to perform a full backup and still keep only one VBK? Currently i have to wait 25 backups to get rid of the oldest full backup. I do not have enough diskspace to keep multiple Full Backups (that's why i chose for Reversed Incremental ;-)). Any hints or tips?

Hi - no, it is not possible for a simple reason: all reversed increments are tied up to specific VBK state. What you can do, is to move the older VBK chain to another storage (such as external USB drive), and keep them there for a while, so that you are able to restore from them should the need arise.

Ok, that makes sense.

Thank you for your answer.
