RDX Backup Copy Job error when rotated drive is changed

Hello everyone,

first i want to apologize for my english because it might now be the best.

I have a question regarding offsite backups.

Recently we switched from Altaro to Veeam at one of our bigger customers (about 25 VMs).
The backup to a Synology NAS works perfectly fine.

However, I still don't know what the best option for the offsite is.
With Altaro we used serveral RDX Drives (Monday to Friday) for the offsite backup. (2 Drives for each day because because from a certain point in time the space was no longer sufficient on a single drive).


Now I added the two repositories (with the option rotated media activated) and two Backup Copy Jobs. One job for each drive with exclusions on both jobs.
This works fine but when the customers changes the drives (for example Monday -> Tuesday) i receive the following error.

Rotated drive was changed, restarting backup copy job

After some time there is a retry and it eventually works.


Is there a problem with my configuration?

Hi Praxxzz

First, I recommend to open a case. Our support team can check the logs and tell from them if there is an issue with the backup copy jobs. Technical issues without case number may be deleted by a moderator (our forum rules).

May I ask, How have you added two repositories with the option rotated disk enabled? Are they connected to different windows server? One managed server can only have one rotated disk repository. Two rotated repositories is not allowed.

And which Veeam version does your customer use? We had a known issue in v11 which was solved in v11a.

Thanks for the reply. I will open a case tomorrow.

I added the two repositorys on the same server. The RDX Drives are connected with differnt drive letters. This works for me. The only little problem is the error message.

Veeam version is V12.
