Restoring to a different Server
Hello! I'm testing community edition to back up several file shares on Windows servers to a Linux SMB share. so far so good, the backups are running smoothly and I can restore any file to the server where Veeam is installed.
I'd like to test now the scenario of the Veeam server failing and be obligated to restore the files to a different computer. I've already installed Community edition to a new PC (different domain, just testing worst case scenario).
How do I connect and retrieve the backups in the Linux server? Are there any guides or docs available describing this steps?
Thanks in advance,
Miguel

Re: Restoring to a different Server
Hello Miguel,
Glad to hear that our product works for your environment! Adding backups to a new backup server is pretty easy: once the Veeam B&R is installed add new repository and then rescan it (there is a dedicated option in the wizard), but you can also rescan repository manually whenever it's required. All Veeam backups will be detected and added under Home > Backups as Imported. Thank you!

Re: Restoring to a different Server
If you have completed a Configuration Backup on your current VBR server, you can use that to restore to the new one for DR testing. It will contain everything needed to reconnect to your SMB share on Linux. See here - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120 -- you will need to rescan the repository once added as well.
The other option is importing the backups to the new VBR server from the console - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
