BACKUP VBR Server

Post by semery »

Greetings,
I am interested in knowing the best practices for backing up my VBR server. Currently, I am using the config backup and Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. I am doing local backup, SMB repository and cloud object storage, but that takes a very long time because it needs to do a snapshot every backup.
Thank you,
Simon Emery

Hi Simon,

The best practice is run configuration backup, see more info here.

We do not need to backup Veeam backup server itself (OS partition C:\, data partition D:\), only configuration data?
At one client we have configuration data on external backup storage. Let's say that we are safe if Veeam backup server crashes.
On other client, we have backup storage on Veeam backup server itself; backup partition V:\. We had put configuration data backup on D:\Backup, and we backup it using VBR to disk and to tape. Is this 0K?

Hi Zoran and Welcome to Veeam R&D Forums!

Yes, you should use configuration backup feature to protect the backup server configuration. To follow 3-2-1 rule and have backups on a secondary location, there are backup copy and backup to tape jobs.

Thanks!
