Microsoft removing custom scripting from SharePoint and OneDrive

Post by leviu »

Got a message from Microsoft ID MC714186 about removal of custom scripting from SharePoint and OneDrive in March 2024.
3rd party link: https://m365admin.handsontek.net/remove ... point-web/).

How will this affect Veeam backup for Microsoft 365's ability to backup SharePoint sites?

I don't know why exactly, but for certain SP Online sites VBO requires to enable custom scripting for the website to be backed up usefully.

Hey,

We will need to do some more testing however, I don't believe (at this point in time) that it will be an issue. The custom scripting is indeed being removed, but there is still the possibility to enable it through PowerShell temporarily, something we can do also. But as said, we need to do testing and we are hoping to get a tenant that has this "removed" upfront so we are certain it doesn't cause any issues.

No matter what, we can do backups of sites without custom scripting today. So new sites won't be an issue. My only concern is backing up sites that had it enabled before, and how they will respond.
