When a O365 job (for example OneDrive backup) is created it can be based on a group. When that group is removed later Veeam keeps on executing that job. Since the group doesn't exist the group membership count evaluates as "0" and the job succeeds without error.
From a technical perspective Veeam does nothing wrong. The evaluation of the group doesn’t produce any users so there are no OneDrive folders to be backed up and the job reports “success”. But from an informational perspective I would like to know the difference between “no users because the group is empty” or “no users because the group doesn’t exist (anymore)”.
I think this would be very useful information in a daily report or maybe an error report by mail. In our case the group on which the OneDrive backup was based on, was deleted end of January. We noticed almost half a year later when my colleague wanted to restore something from a user OneDrive.

Re: Feature request : No error on non-existing group
Hi Michiel
How was the group added? What version of VB365 are you running?
I just tried it myself:
- Group added to a backup job
- Run the job once: Backup session ended successfully
- Deleted the group in M365
- Run Start-VBOOrganizationSynchronization to update the cache in VB365
- Run the job again: Backup session ended with a warning
The job ended with a warning and I got a mail notification that the group doesn't exist anymore.
Mail:

Best,
Fabian
