Proxmox - Open vSwitch?

Post by ksl28 »

Hey,

As everyone else i am trying to get Veeam integrated with Proxmox VE, and are stuck at the worker section.
The network drop down list is simply empty:
https://ibb.co/p2yTkGz

According to the documentation, the network must be configured as to this guide - https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Network_Configuration

But i am using Open vSwitch as recommended by Proxmox, for more "advanced" deployments.
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Open_vSwitch

Any chance that Veeam does not support Proxmox Open vSwitch - or am i facing another issue?

Hi Kristian,

Open vSwitch isn't supported in this release.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbpro ... html?ver=1

If you select a regular bridge network during deployment, you can afterwards manually switch the network in Proxmox to Open vSwitch.

Hi Regnor,

Thanks for the reply.
I feared that it was the case - sadly i cant use the normal bridge, since it has been removed and have caused me major issues in the past, when having both the normal bridge and the Open vSwitch on the same physical nic.

Any chance you know, where i can submit a feature request for support for Open vSwitch in version 2 of VBR for PVE?

Unfortunately for now this is the only workaround until Open vSwitch is supported. Could you maybe create a host only network without a physical NIC?

You don't need to create a separate feature request, as the posts in the R&D Forums are reviewed by Product Management.

Hi,

You can create workers with a normal birdge, and switch the VMs to Open vSwitch manually in PVE UI.
Of course this is not officially suppoted yet, and you will have to perform this change every time you update workers.

Thanks!

Just chiming in, from what I can see it looks like Proxmox as of about a year ago is implementing SDNs/vNets, which seem to work OOB with Veeam and offer a single, cluster-level networking config. I started trying to use Open vSwitch in my lab with the Proxmox beta as I was migrating over from vCenter and the functionality seems pretty close to distributed switches.

Good news is that official support for vSwitches (as in "you can select it in UI") is on a short list for the next update!

Thanks!
