Add new Linux-Server - only x64 message

Post by StefanP74 »

Hello,

VBR 12.0.0.1420 P20230718

i try to add a new managed debian linux server under backup infrastructure.
I choose credentials, say yes to trust this server (fingerprint) and after that i see the message "Only x86_64 (64 bit) Linux servers are supported".

But it is a 64 bit server
uname -a
Linux xx-xxxxxxxx 5.10.0-25-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.191-1 (2023-08-16) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Do you have an idea what i can do?

Thank you
Best Regards,
StefanP

Hello Stefan

Please make sure, that you use a supported Debian version (Debian 10.0 to 11.0) and that the account which credentials you have used has a home directory created on the Debian server. Without a home directory, that message could be shown even if you have a x64 system.

For further troubleshooting, kindly open a case with our customer support team as requested for any technical issue. Don't forget to provide me with the case number.

Best,
Fabian

Good morning,

thx for your help.
Yes, the problem was the user and its home-directory.
The backup ran with user root (no good idea i think, but it works until last week) ... i created a new user and used this one for backup. 2 minutes later with successful managed-server config backup worked like a charme :)

thx, greets StefanP

Good morning Stefan

Thank you for the feedback.
Yes, user root shouldn't be used :)

Hello,
maybe it helps someone: the same error shows up if a different shell than bash is configured for that user (I had zsh in my case)

Best regards

Thanks so much! I had both these issues (no home directory and using zsh)! Sorted those out, and got in. But, now Veeam is trying to install stuff on my TrueNAS Scale server, and it's not having any of that....

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

well, TrueNAS is not built to run software directly on the system. Recently someone else posted here using a hack for that. The "right" way would be to use LXC containers. But that fails with Hardened Repository because chattr +i doesn't work in unprivileged containers. And if you enable privileged containers, then the web interface breaks (at least some weeks ago, I filed a bug for that).

My suggestion would be that you request full "privileged container" support on the TrueNAS side instead of doing too many hacks here.

Best regards
Hannes
