Hello -- I have a SOBR configured that includes the following:
Performance tier is an ExaGrid device on-site
Capacity tier is AWS S3 blob storage (configured for Direct connection, not using a gateway)
My question is -- when the offload runs - what server/system is making the connection to the S3 storage since it's a "direct connection"? I know that in the scenario of a 'normal' windows/Linux repo, the performance-tier repo is making that connection directly to the cloud and offloading the data. But in this scenario (an exagrid) - there's not a data mover agent that's installed on it to perform the offload, is there? Or does the VBR server "broker" the offload between the Exagrid and the cloud?
thanks

Re: Direct connection to blob storage from ExaGrid ?
Hi n3rdling,
Exagrid actually does host the Veeam datamovers -- they get deployed the "classic" way currently, so it doesn't need a gateway server like other deduplication appliances do.
So it will be direct indeed. Are you seeing differently when you run the offload job? (You can make a simple test job with a "dummy" small VM to the Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR), then ctrl+right-click the SOBR to manually start the tiering job)

Perfect -- that's exactly what I was looking for! I couldn't find that exact scenario in the documentation. Thank you!
