Remove the Bare Metal Restore blocks

Post by SnakeSK »

After a server crash and trying to restore the bare metal, I was greeted with the message:
"veeam agent for microsoft windows is unable to open backup files created by veeam backup & replication"

So just to restore I have to install full VBR (somewhere), seriously what are you gaining from this? Instead of directly restore I have to battle through numerous additional steps.

Hi SnakeSK,

Backup files from primary backup jobs can be directly opened by our latest agent and recovery media (v6.3). Please note that the recovery media needs to be created on a v6.3 agent or on a Veeam Backup & Replication v12.3 server from a Agent v6.3 backup.

However, backup files from a backup copy job always need to be restored directly from a Veeam Backup & Replication repository. The agent cannot work with files from a copy job because the metadata is different.

V12.3 whats new - https://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_12_3 ... new_wn.pdf:
Bare Metal Recovery from manual copies — Due to popular demand, we are adding the ability to
perform bare metal recovery from a locally attached storage device containing backups manually
copied from a backup repository. This provides added flexibility and convenience by allowing you to
restore systems without establishing a direct network connection to the backup repository, which may
not always be feasible. Note: To enable this functionality, create recovery media once agent is upgraded
Best,
